HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times of year.   As a child, I loved it because it meant a day at Grandma's with the cousins, as a young adult, it meant my family going to my mother's and mother-in-law's homes and enjoying their cooking.  Now that I live 782 miles from my mom, and my first mother-in-law has passed away, I take turns with my sister-in-law hosting Thanksgiving for my husband's family.  Traditions change over time, but one tradition should always be our thankfulness for what we have.  Make a list of your blessings - it is a great eye opener when we list all we have been blessed with.  May you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and a wonderful year full of blessings!

JUST "TWO" CUTE

Hannah and Hailey - double the cuteness - double the adventure!!  Twins present a challenge like no other (except for maybe triplets). This was such a fun session and I really got my workout!!!  Their big brother, Mason, was a big help!  Most of the images below are PSE composites because trying to get one year olds to look at the camera at the same time - or even be in the camera frame at the same time is a real challenge!  But I think the results are so worth it!

CUTIE PIES- Kennedy and Brody

Ellen, grandma of Kennedy and Brody, scheduled a session for her grandchildren when they came to visit her.  She was hoping to get some nice shots for her Christmas cards.  Kennedy and Brody are cousins, but are very close in age, so I knew I was going to be working with some cute little one year olds and possibly 2 older step sisters of Brody.  One year olds are always a challenge because they are usually mobile and love to be on-the-go!  Plus, for some reason, even at this young age, they seem to know everyone wants them to look and smile at the camera.  Usually, they try to avoid doing what everyone wants :-).  I love the challenge because every precious shot is worth all the effort!

I love these images of Kennedy and her beautiful momma:

Here are all 4 of the children together:

OUT TAKES

I read a lot of photography blogs and watch a lot of photography and lighting training videos through the labs I use and other resources.  The last couple of days I read some information about sharing the "out takes" from the photography sessions.  I know they are fun to see and everyone enjoys a good laugh.  However, the article explained that many times potential clients think that everyone's children that are being photographed are well behaved and sit and smile so nicely.  This potential client may hesitate to schedule an appointment because they feel their children would never sit and "perform" like the other children in the photographs.  Any photographer that has had children in their studio knows that this is simply not true.  Children are children!  Occasionally, I get a family that the children will sit and pose and do every thing you ask and perform like they are professional models!  But that is a rarity, at least in my limited experience.   Usually there are so many images taken and so many things going on behind the scenes to get the few images that I post!   If anyone reading this feels this way - please don't think for one minute that I am not up to the challenge of getting your child (ren) in my studio and getting some great images!!!   If they don't sit and smile the way you think they should, we will get shots of them interacting and being themselves!  After all, aren't those some of the best memories we can have of our little ones?   I hope you enjoy some of these "out takes" - these are all unedited, by the way!

FAMILY SESSIONS- The G kids

I have to say that I am usually pretty good with kids.  I have 4 silly boys of my own, and I love being silly myself.  I love getting kids to smile and laugh.  I often sing, jump, make animal noises and weird faces to get kids to laugh.  Usually these techniques work really well.  Usually. . . . .    Sometimes things don't go as well as I had hoped. . .  be it tired kids, kids that just don't want their picture taken, or even. . . gasp - kids that don't think I'm funny!!!  Can you imagine?  :-)   Well, these 4 cuties made me work really hard to get the smiles I got here!   It was worth all the hard work!

SENIOR SESSIONS-Chris, Erica, Amanda

Three more Spencer High School seniors finished out the month of October and also my scheduled seniors this year.   It's been a great year and a great group of seniors.    We were fortunate enough for all three of these sessions to have some really nice weather.
